City Biking Guide

City Biking Guides work together with Shuttle Drivers to create exceptional experiences for our guests. Lead clients by bike, ensuring client safety on half-day and full-day tours, creating an engaging experience through providing information and fun facts at various viewpoints along the way.  Organize and execute tours catering to all guests according to Alaska Trail Guides’ standards and procedures. Guides outfit clients with bikes and helmets, ensuring proper fit, before the ride. While cycling, guides ensure client safety on the trail and around wildlife, following leave no trace ethics, trail etiquette protocols, and wildlife protocols. 

Coastal Cruise: greet clients at Kincaid Chalet and lead them on a 9.5-mile bike tour of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail

  • Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Drivers License
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • 1+ years working as a guide, in the tourism industry and/or in customer service
  • Enjoy cycling, be able to ride up to 20 miles a day, and have a passion for Alaska
  • Have a well maintained bike you can ride everyday and basic bike repair skills* You have to love Alaska and hanging out with the bikes creating experience with people!

  • Able to work both independently and within a team to lead fun, safe, and informative bike tours
  • Outstanding customer service, communication skills, and strong organizational skills
  • Impeccable time management skills, reliable, able to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Strong Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit to ride 10 - 35 miles per day. In addition to cycling, guides must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs comfortably. Work outside in all temperatures and conditions for five to eight hours a day as required. Bend at the waist, twist upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulders, flex and extend ankle, knee, and hip joints.
  • Knowledge and experience around common wildlife in Anchorage (moose, bears, lynx, etc)

  • Lead fun, interpretive tours by bike.
  • Troubleshoot and fix bike issues that arise while on the trail.

  • Work well in a team actively assisting all guests each day. Help clients gear up, deliver briefings, and interact professionally with guests at all times.

  • Educate clients on riding technique and etiquette. Help guests get reacquainted with biking by providing tips and guidance on how to shift and use hand brakes.
  • Leave No Trace Ethics and attitude of environmental stewardship.

Mountain Biking Guide

Get out with visitors and locals alike on our extensive trail system. You will organize and execute tours catering to seasoned and experienced riders and to newbies according to Alaska Trail Guides’ standards and procedures.  Outfit clients with bikes and helmets, ensuring proper fit, before the ride. While cycling, ensure client safety on the trail and around wildlife, following leave no trace ethics, trail etiquette protocols, and wildlife protocols. From fun flow at Kincaid to panoramic views on Powerline, this is about having fun, riding mountain bikes, and helping people experience Alaska!

Trails: Kincaid & Powerline Pass
Tours: Private Singletrack Sampler & Chugach Mountain Bike Tour

*Part-time, flexible schedule

  • Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Minimum age 21
  • First Aid & CPR Certification or Wilderness CPR or Wilderness First Responder
  • 4+ years mountain biking with a minimum of 1 year experience at Kincaid Park * Knowledge of Kincaid Park trail system with the ability to hand pick trails for clients based on their skill level
  • 1+ years previous guiding experience
  • Have a well maintained mountain bike and basic bike repair skills
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Knowledge, Skill, and Experience Required
  • Able to work both independently and within a team to lead fun, safe, and informative bike tours

Shuttle Driver

Utilizing a 15 passenger van and trailer the Shuttle Driver adheres to a strict schedule to move guests and equipment throughout the day. The shuttle provides transportation for those tour guests and rental customers who don’t have other means of transportation to get to Kincaid Park. 

Operating company vehicles and handling company equipment while catering to all guests according to Alaska Trail Guides’ standards and procedures.

Rental Staff

Using our online, cloud-based booking software you will help check in pre-booked rental customers as well as process walk-up rentals. Get clients outfitted and ready for their rental ensuring their bike and helmet fit appropriately. Check equipment back in ensuring it’s in good working condition. Perform basic bike maintenance throughout the day and ensure the shop stays clean and organized. You will also help biking guides before/after tours to ensure seamless guest experiences.

  • Checking in and out rental equipment based on Alaska Trail Guides standards* Maintain, clean, organize, and perform basic repairs/service on rental equipment
  • Ability to properly fit clients on a bike included: bike seat adjustments, suspension adjustments bases on riders weight
  • Basic bike mechanic skills: fix a flat, fix a chain, basic break adjustments, change pedals
  • Reports and documents significant quality and safety issues to the Mechanic and/or Operations Manager
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills (risk management)

Bike Mechanic

Alaska Trail Guides is looking for an experienced Bike Mechanic to assist with all aspects of bike maintenance and repair. Our mission is to provide incredible hospitality to our clients and change the world by getting more people on bikes. Oftentimes, after our tours, clients leave with a reignited love and excitement for biking. Our well-maintained, comfortable bikes are a key part of that. This position is vital to the overall success as it is all about caring for the bikes that help create our experiences. Ensuring a smooth, enjoyable, and carefree ride.

This position will maintain the companies tour and rental fleet. Servicing hybrid, comfort, fat-tire bikes, hardtail mountain bike, and full-suspension mountain bikes. You’ll troubleshoot repairs and on the spot ensuring each bike is ready to roll for each tour or rental. 

Applicants must have experience working in a professional service department and will encompass the ability to work independently and efficiently with the utmost concern for the quality of work and customer service. This is the place where you will have your experience and professionalism working on bikes be respected and compensated.   • Bike maintenance and repair experience, including but not limited to: hydraulic and cable breaks, drive chains, truing wheels, tubeless tire set up, etc
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs comfortably. Ability to sit, stand, walk for six to 8 hours a day as required. Work outside in all temperatures and conditions six to eight hours a day as required. Bend at the waist, twist upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulders, flex and extend ankle, knee, and hip joints.
  • Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Perform maintenance and on-demand repairs on all bikes in the fleet in a professional and timely manner* Complete duties and tasks according to the operational needs of the business while adhering to company policies
  • Keep a detailed service log and input all maintenance documentation on software for tracking and inventory management
  • Remain current on technical information
  • Ability to keep oneself accountable to a set of goals, and schedule themselves accordingly.* Flexibility to work with varying schedules and workloads.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manger for ordering tools, shop equipment, vendor warranty items based on shop needs
  • Assist in the training and of bike guides and rental staff to ensure they have the basic knowledge to make quick fixes on the trail
  • Perform quality, safe, repeatable work, and hold themselves to a high standard without close supervision.
