City Biking Guide

City Biking Guides work with Drivers Guides to create exceptional guest experiences. Lead clients by bike, ensuring client safety and creating an engaging experience by providing information and fun facts at various viewpoints. Organize and execute tours catering to all guests according to Alaska Trail Guides’ standards and procedures. Guides outfit clients with bikes and helmets, ensuring proper fit before the ride. While cycling, guides ensure client safety on the trail and around wildlife, following Leave No Trace Ethics, trail etiquette protocols, and wildlife protocols, in addition to providing fun facts and history along the way.

Guide duties may be split between being a Driver Guide and a Biking Guide and cleaning bikes and equipment.

  • Requirements
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Clean driving record for past 3 years
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum age 21
  • Enjoy cycling, be able to bike up to 20 miles a day, and have a passion for Alaska
  • Have a well maintained bike you can ride everyday and basic bike repair skills or ability to learn
  • Knowledge, Skill, and Experience Required
  • Able to work both independently and within a team to lead fun, safe, and informative bike tours
  • Outstanding customer service, communication skills, and strong organizational skills
  • Impeccable time management skills, reliable, able to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Strong Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit to bike 10 - 35 paved miles per day. In addition to cycling, guides must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs comfortably. Work outside in all temperatures and conditions for five to eight hours a day as required. Bend at the waist, twist upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulders, flex and extend ankle, knee, and hip joints.
  • Knowledge and experience around common wildlife in Anchorage (moose, bears, lynx, etc)
  • 1+ years working as a guide or in the tourism industry
  • Strong story telling skills with knowledge of Alaska/Anchorage human and natural history
  • Strong group management skills and leadership skills
  • Basic understanding of bike mechanics and ability to trouble shoot and fix basic bike issues on the trail (ie: flat tire, broken chain)
  • Overview of Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead fun, interpretive tours by bike.
  • Troubleshoot and fix bike issues that arise while on the trail.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills (risk management)
  • Learn client expectations and strive to meet them
  • Relate local knowledge, including natural, geological, and glacial history
  • Work well in a team, actively assisting all guests each day. Help clients gear up, deliver briefings, and interact professionally with guests at all times.
  • Complete duties and tasks according to the operational needs of the business while adhering to company policies
  • Educate clients on riding techniques and etiquette. Help guests get reacquainted with biking by providing tips and guidance on how to shift and use hand brakes.
  • Leave No Trace Ethics and attitude of environmental stewardship.

Driver Guide

Utilizing a 10-passenger van and trailer, the Driver Guide adheres to a strict schedule to move guests and equipment throughout the day. The shuttle provides transportation for guests, guides, and equipment, facilitating and helping create a complete and seamless experience. Our bike tours are point-to-point, ensuring an enjoyable and inclusive tour. As a Driver Guide, you interact with guests and help craft transformational moments within their trip.

Operating company vehicles and handling company equipment while catering to all guests according to Alaska Trail Guides’ standards and procedures.

  • 1+ years experience towing a trailer

  • Able to work both independently and within a team
  • Impeccable time management skills, reliable, able to give and receive constructive feedback

  • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs comfortably. Ability to sit, stand, walk for up to eight hours a day as required. Work outside in all temperatures and conditions for five to eight hours a day as required. Bend at the waist, twist upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulders, flex and extend ankle, knee, and hip joints.* will be assisting guides with loading/unloading bikes and other equipment on/off a trailer

Mountain Biking Guide

Get out with visitors and locals alike on our extensive trail system. You will organize and execute tours catering to seasoned and experienced riders and newbies according to Alaska Trail Guides’ standards and procedures. Outfit clients with bikes and helmets, ensuring proper fit before the ride. While cycling, ensure client safety on the trail and around wildlife, following Leave No Trace Ethics, trail etiquette protocols, and wildlife protocols. From fun flow at Kincaid to panoramic views on Powerline, this is about having fun, riding mountain bikes, and helping people experience Alaska!

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification or Wilderness CPR or Wilderness First Responder
  • 4+ years mountain biking with a minimum of 1 year experience at Kincaid Park * Knowledge of Kincaid Park trail system with the ability to hand pick trails for clients based on their skill level
  • 1+ years previous guiding / instructing experience
  • Have a well maintained mountain bike and basic bike repair skills
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Knowledge, Skill, and Experience Required
  • Able to work both independently and within a team to lead fun, safe, and informative bike tours
  • Impeccable time management skills, reliable, able to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Outstanding customer service, communication skills, and strong organizational skills

Additional Opportunities

There is potential growth with Alaska Trail Guides, and we are looking for the right person to grow with the company. This person must be willing to commit to more than one season. During their first season with us, they will be cross-trained on all our tours, driving and guiding. An experienced guide with us who shows potential will have the opportunity to join our business permanently as an OPS manager and year-round guide.

  • Guide in good standing with the Alaska Trail Guides who has been with the company for minimum of 2 seasons ~ Applicants who have 5+ years as a guide, or previous OPS Manager experience in tourism will be considered after first season with AKTG
  • Guide can lead both mountain biking and city biking tours
  • Impeccable time management and communication skills, reliable, and resourceful
  • Outstanding customer service and strong organizational skills who receives a minimum of 20 5 star reviews a season
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule as the seasons require.
