Bike, Hike & Paddle Southcentral Alaska
5 days, 4 nights
Quiet towns, scenic bike paths, hiking in the mountains and paddling pristine waters.
We start in Anchorage and get a taste of "city life" in Alaska, biking through the woods and along the coast looking for moose, black bears and bald eagles. Then onto the small town of Girdwood which is tucked away in mountains dotted with glaciers, and then Whittier where the whales migrate to too feed in the fjords. This is a one-of-a-kind trip and a true taste of Southcentral Alaska. Let us drive and manage all the logistics while you enjoy the trip of a lifetime!
We keep our groups small which allows us the ability to tailor activities to the group or individuals. The group is lead by two local guides who know the area, the history, the wildlife and whose focus is ensuring that you have a great experience and journey while with us.

Day 1: As you arrive in Anchorage your guide will pick you up from the airport and bring you to the Captain Cook Hotel in Downtown Anchorage. You will have the day to explore at your leisure. The group will meet in the evening for dinner.
Day 2: In the morning, after breakfast, we van to Kincaid Park where the wildlife roams and is home to the former Cold War missile base. Here, we begin our leisurely 9.5 mile bike ride along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. Along the way we keep on the lookout for moose, black bears and bald eagles that live in the park. This paved bike path stretches through the woods and along Cook Inlet where you get views of the Aleutian Mountain Range, Denali and the Chugach Mountains.
Load back up and the group heads to lunch at one of the top pizza restaurants in the Nation. After you are refueled we head to the mountains. Choose from a 6 mile hike or a 10 mile fat tire bike ride. You have two guides with you so both options are available to the group! Either way you choose to explore the Valley you will enjoy peaks towering over on both sides, a mountain stream below and wildlife about.
After your first taste of the Chugach Mountains the views don’t stop! We get in the van and drive South along Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic highways in the Nation, to Girdwood. In Girdwood, relax in a cozy cabin where you will spend the next two nights.
Day 3: After breakfast we get in the saddle for a beautiful ride through Girdwood and along Turnagain Arm. Depending on your comfort and fitness level this ride can be anywhere from 10 miles to 30 miles. A bike path takes you through Girdwood, into the wetlands and through the woods to the coast. Take time to enjoy the fresh air, take in the scenery and experience the stillness.
After lunch you can choose to join one of your guides for a hike or head out on an excursion offered in the area. For example, from Girdwood you can take a helicopter flight seeing tour or go dog mushing. Your guides will ensure that you make it to and from the excursion. After a day of adventure relax and experience dinner with a view at the 7 Glacier’s Restaurant at the top of the Alyeska Tram.
Day 4: Head further South to Whittier, a tiny town with a big history. Whittier was originally a passage used by the Russian and American explorers and later became a military port. Today, the town is a gateway to the Prince William Sound where kayaking, glaciers and whales are a short boat ride away! Board a double kayak you can paddle, peddle or sail to Beloit Glacier in Blackstone Bay. Enjoy lunch on the beach with views of the glacier with plenty of time on the water near the glacier watching it calve. After a day exploring on the water we drive back to Girdwood.
Day 5: Have the morning to sleep in and relax, take a trip to the Wildlife Conservation Center, go for a hike or take a bike ride. After lunch we drive back to Anchorage which marks the end of your adventure with Alaska Trail Guides.
