Covid-19 Health, Safety & Operating Updates

There is no better place to adventure and be in open spaces than Alaska.

Updated January 29th, 2021

On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of Coronavirus, known as COVID-19, to be a global pandemic.  The health, safety, and well-being of our guests, staff, and the local community is our number one priority. We are monitoring the world health crisis and adhering to the Municipality of Anchorage, State, and Federal mandates as they are announced to help flatten the curve.

At Alaska Trail Guides the safety of our staff, guides and community is our top priority. We provide the services and tours we do because we value health, wellness, and our wilderness. We have developed and implemented a detailed operating plan due to Covid-19. This included updated cleaning protocols based on CDC guidelines, reduced capacities to ensure social distancing, and updates to our tour offerings to ensure we operate during the least busy times to help social distance. Protocols and operations are regularly reassessed for the health and safety of our clients and staff. Updates are announced on this page.

Operational Changes Due to Covid-19

  • TRANSPORTATIONTo help with social distancing we ask that those who have their own transportation meet at the trailhead where the guide will have equipment sanitized and ready for your tour. For those without their own transportation seating in the van is limited to a maximum of 6 passengers. Face coverings must be on before you get in and must stay on until we unload. We are maximizing ventilation within the shuttle by keeping the windows rolled down for the duration of the drive.
  • MASK POLICYAll clients and team members are required to wear a mask or face covering inside our facilities and vehicles and when maintaining 6 feet isn't possible. Masks are not required when we are outside, however, there will be times throughout your tour when we may ask you to put your mask on for a short time.
  • SIGNS OF SICKNESSAlaska Trail Guides will be calling all parties 24 hours before the tour departure to complete a screening questionnaire over the phone. In the past 10 days, if you have experienced any cold or flu-like symptoms please contact us in advance of your activity to reschedule or for a refund.
  • NON-FAMILY GROUPSNon-family groups will be asked to stay 6 feet apart to maintain social distancing while biking and while at viewpoints. If you prefer a private tour please contact us for pricing.
  • TOURSWe have always been about small group tours! Typical group sizes range from 2 to 10 clients. To better adhere to social distancing our tour capacity has been reduced to a maximum of 6. Some tours are only being offered privately, while ALL tours can be requested to be made private for an additional charge. Some tour routes have been modified.
  • FACILITIESWhile our clients don’t visit our warehouse or office, we pride ourselves on maintaining a spotless facility. All surfaces, handles, tables, chairs, etc are thoroughly cleaned every morning and after prepping for every tour.
  • EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES All equipment is thoroughly inspected, washed, and disinfected after each use. From helmets to rain jackets, every touch-point on a bike to every touch-point in the vehicle. Every client is outfitted with clean, high-quality equipment for their bike tour.
  • CONTACT TRACINGUpon arriving for your tour or lesson everyone is checked-in. We are keeping records for potential contact tracing.
